FREE PICTURE: Edinburgh Deaf Festival 2024 Launch – with special play about deaf charity founder, Thur 08/08/2024:
The third Edinburgh Deaf Festival kicks off from Friday 9th August, and features a special play (from Saturday 10th August) about Alexander Blackwood, the pastor of the world’s first deaf church and founder of the world’s first deaf-led benevolent society in 1835.
That organisation grew into Deaf Action, the charity now based in Albany Street, which runs Edinburgh Deaf Festival.
“The Ghost of Alexander Blackwood” is created and performed by an all-deaf team, and is part of the Edinburgh Deaf Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe.
