Meat Loaf musical opens tour at Edinburgh Playhouse
Bat Out Of Hell – the Musical is set to open a new UK tour in the New Year with a week long stay at the Edinburgh Playhouse from Monday 6 January 2025 and the Glasgow King’s in April 2025.
Tickets for the Playhouse go on general sale here from 4pm today, Monday 24 June, with Glasgow tickets available from tomorrow. The 24 date tour is booked through to September.

The stage musical uses Jim Steinman tracks from Meat Loaf’s trilogy of Bat Out Of Hell albums with a book which is loosely based on Peter Pan. It is set in post-apocalyptic Manhattan (now named ‘Obsidian’), and follows Strat, the forever young leader of ‘The Lost’
As the Lost boys and girls flee from the city’s rulers Falco and his wife Sloane into the tunnels below Obsidian, their teenage daughter Raven locks eyes with the fearless Strat. The immensity of Raven and Strat’s love-at-first-sight-obsessions threatens to destroy both of their families.

The cast includes the return of Glenn Adamson, Sharon Sexton and Rob Fowler in the roles of Strat, Sloane and Falco, with Katie Tonkinson taking on the role of Raven.
They will bring their powerhouse vocals to such Meat Loaf anthems as I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That), Paradise By The Dashboard Light, Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad, Dead Ringer For Love and of course title track Bat Out of Hell.

The original Bat Out Of Hell album was released in 1977 to initially slow sales. It was based on an idea Steinman had for a rock musical which had evolved over the previous decade. It continued evolving as the album slowly became one the best-selling albums in history and was the making of the singer, Meat Loaf.
That original idea of a musical eventually premiered at the Manchester Opera House on 17 February 2017 before transferring to London where it won the Evening Standard Best Musical award. A Covid-delayed UK tour rumbled into the Playhouse in February 2022 (Æ review: ★★★★☆ The Bat is Back).
