“Reimagined” Queen musical to return on UK tour
The Queen and Ben Elton musical We Will Rock You is to be reimagined for a 2019 UK and Ireland tour, coming to Edinburgh Playhouse in October 2019.
The new production will open in Bromley on September 19 before hitting the Playhouse for a week from Monday 7 to Saturday 12 October 2019. It will spend Christmas in Glasgow at the Theatre Royal (Dec 9 – 28 2019), and play His Majesties Aberdeen for a week from Mon 5 to Sat 10 February 2020.

The show premiered in 2002 and is based on the songs of Queen with a book by Ben Elton (The Young Ones, Blackadder, Popcorn). Elton fashioned his science fiction romp around more than 24 of Queen’s biggest hit hits, including are We Are The Champions, Radio Ga Ga, I Want To Break Free and Killer Queen.
It is set in a globalised future without musical instruments. A handful of rock rebels, the Bohemians, fight against the all-powerful Globalsoft company and its boss, the Killer Queen; they fight for freedom, individuality and the rebirth of the age of rock.
Bohemian Rhapsody
The fact that young Scaramouche and Galileo cannot come to terms with the bleak conformist reality ensures that there is a place for Bohemian Rhapsody. And when they join the Bohemians, Another One Bites The Dust and they embark on the search to find the unlimited power of freedom, love and Rock in the title track.
The show’s arrival in Edinburgh will be almost ten years after the first UK tour parked itself at the Playhouse for an eight week Christmas stay on November 9 2009.
The announcement of the We Will Rock You tour follows hard on the heels of the release of Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody which has already become the highest-grossing musical biographical film of all time since it opened in the UK in October.
