War Horse sells £2M in tickets as run sells out
War Horse is Festival Theatre’s highest grossing production
By Thom Dibdin
War Horse, the National Theatre smash hit, has officially sold out its 31 performances at the Festival Theatre Edinburgh.
All online briefs for the venue, which has a capacity of 1839 seats for this production, have now been snapped up. However, further tickets may still become available before the run starts, as group returns are made.
The theatre’s box office is advising anyone looking to pick up returns to follow their twitter or facebook accounts (see below) through which any newly released tickets will be announced. There will also be an on-the-night returns queue during the run of the show.
“We wish we had more seats to sell!” a spokesman for the theatre told Æ. “We have taken over £2 million in the box office for this show, meaning that is now the biggest grossing show at the Festival Theatre in its 20 year history.”
The record-breaking run started at the Theatre Royal Plymouth in September, where it was the fastest-selling show ever, and completely sold out its run at the Birmingham Hippodrome. After its Christmas run in Salford, War Horse arrives for three and a half weeks in Edinburgh from Wedneday 22 January, before continuing to Southampton, Dublin, Sunderland, Bradford and Cardiff, then back to Salford in the summer of 2014 and on to Stoke-on-Trent.
