VPT open script call
Short Scripts wanted for International #DayOfTheGirl
Leith’s Village Pub Theatre is teaming up with Stellar Quines to stage an evening of script-in-hand performances of plays which celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11, 2017.
The evening will feature plays by three playwrights from the VPT collective and three plays drawn through open submissions and selected by Stellar Quines and VPT.

The open call is for scripts of up to ten minutes that respond to the theme of “the role of the girl”. Deadline for submission through the Stellar Quines website is midnight on Sunday 24 September 2017.
The organisers say: “We are looking for people to interpret this theme in a variety of ways but roughly we are looking for writers to explore what role girl’s play in our society, how they relate to other people, how other people relate them.”
The International Day of the Girl Child is a global campaign to raise awareness of the inequality faced by girls around the world based on their gender. This inequality includes areas such as right to education/access to education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, violence against women, unfree child marriage and protection from discrimination.
The plays will be directed by Stellar Quines Artistic Director Jemima Levick and VPT Artistic Director Caitlin Skinner. They will be performed script-in-hand by professional actors.
A condition of submission is that the playwright is available to attend rehearsals and the performance in Leith on Wednesday 11 October. Each of the chosen scripts will be attract a £100 fee for the playwright.
The evening’s plays will, as always, be accompanied by playwright home-baking.

Scripts must be uploaded to the Stellar Quines website (link here) by midnight. This uses Googledocs, so a Gmail account will be required. Anyone who would prefer not to submit a form via google should email Rebecca Davis with Village Pub Theatre in the subject title.
