Virgin keeps fireworks coming
EIF confirms fireworks concert put back a day
Virgin Money has confirmed it is to sponsor the EIF’s fireworks concert for another three years, as it is announced that this summer’s event will be put back a day to coincide with the end of the fringe.
This summer’s Virgin Money Fireworks Concert will be held on Monday 31 August, 2015, extending the Edinburgh International Festival for an extra day.
This is the first time since 1995 that the festival and fringe have run concurrently. In recent years the fireworks concert has been held on a Sunday, the last day of the EIF.
This year’s fireworks concert will again be performed by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, as it has since it started in 1982. Garry Walker also returns to conduct and the visuals will be provided by firework artists Pyrovision.
The concert will start at the slightly later time of 9.30pm and tickets will go on sale on March 28, when details of the music are announced along with the rest of the 2015 EIF programme.
big finale
Fergus Linehan, Director of the International Festival said: “It’s great that the International Festival can present an event on the scale of the Virgin Money Fireworks Concert to bring all our summer festivals to a big finale and offer everyone in the city a spectacular night out.
“I’d like to thank Virgin Money for committing the support for a further three years of fireworks concerts and look forward to developing the event with them and our event partners the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
“I’d also like to thank all the people we’ve consulted with over the last few months, particularly the City of Edinburgh Council whose support in transforming the city centre is so crucial, for working through the details with us and I’m really looking forward to a fantastic Festival finale in 2015.”
The Edinburgh International Festival and Fringe run from Friday 7 to Monday 31 August 2015.
