Tell Me On A Sunday for King’s
Jodie Prenger stars in UK tour
Tell Me On A Sunday, staring Jodie Prenger in “the most naturally socially distanced musical in the world”, has booked into the Edinburgh King’s for a week in September 2021.
The Andrew Lloyd Webber and Don Black one-act musical is set in 1980s New York and features only one performer on stage. It will be touring the UK from June 2021.
Tell Me On a Sunday charts the romantic misadventures of Emma, a young English girl in New York in the heady days of the 1980s. Beside the title song, it features the chart-topping Take That Look Off Your Face which brought fame to Marti Webb.
Brimming with optimism, Emma seeks success and love. But as she weaves her way through the maze of the city and her own anxieties, frustrations and heartaches she begins to wonder whether she’s been looking for love in all the wrong places.
Producer Jamie Wilson said: “Tell Me On A Sunday, with its cast of just one actress, is probably the most naturally socially distanced musical in the world! We are delighted that Jodie Prenger is able to return to this role to reprise her incredible performance as Emma.
“This production is the perfect way for audiences to support their local theatre with this classic show.”
Edinburgh regular
Jodie Prenger has been a regular on Edinburgh’s stages in recent years, staring in A Taste of Honey in 2019 (★★★☆☆ Sweet), Fat Friends the Musical in 2018 (★★★☆☆ Feel-good fun) and Shirley Valentine in 2017 (★★★☆☆ Vibrant).
Originally presented as a Festival song cycle, and subsequently broadcast on television in 1980, Tell Me On A Sunday was expanded as a stand alone, one act production. It has had several UK tours in slightly differing configurations.
This new production for 2021 is based on the Watermill Theatre production of 2016 and will include “an intimate chat with Prenger and Musical Director Francis Goodhand about life, love and playing the role of Emma”.
