The Signalman / M R James: Whistle and I’ll Come to you
Signalman: ★★★★☆ Thoroughly atmospheric
Whistle: ★★★☆☆ Spooky
Paragon Theatre Collective’s The Signalman and M R James: Whistle and I’ll Come to You from Blue Orange Arts are both fine examples of atmospherically spooky stage adaptations of classic short fiction.
Man of War: The Secret Life of Nadezhda Durova
★★★★☆ Powerful
With four actors sharing the title role, Man of War: The Secret Life of Nadezhda Durova from Acting Coach Scotland is a compelling, ensemble-driven telling of the life of a man, who was a woman; a person, who was a soldier; putting aside all personal comforts for their country’s good.
Untitled
★★★☆☆ Detached
Mon Espoir’s Untitled at theSpace @ Symposium Hall is an intriguingly uneven work. Its depiction of difficult emotions and the workings of memory is always interesting, if sometimes difficult to process.
Kev Campbell Was He
★★★★☆ Young talent
Kev Campbell Was He, a one man show, written, performed and produced by Alexander Tait, gives us a wide ranging insight into some of the conflicts facing young men today.
Catching Up
★★☆☆☆ Shapeless
There is an amorphous feel to Theatre Paradok’s Catching Up at Symposium Hall, as if what we are seeing has had one draft too few – or, more likely, several drafts too many.
Radio 69
★★★☆☆ Frothy
There is enough liveliness and verve in Radio 69, presented by the Counterminers at theSpace at Symposium Hall, for several Fringe shows. However, a corresponding attention to detail is not always present.
