Shakespeare
EUSC Open Call
Much Ado About Nothing for EdFringe:
Edinburgh University Shakespeare Society is to stage its first ever EdFringe production and has put out and open call to auditions for Much Ado About Nothing, running in week three of EdFringe 2018.
Romeo and Juliet
★★★☆☆ Full blooded:
There is plenty to like about the Edinburgh University Shakespeare Company’s full-blooded, modern dress production of Romeo and Juliet at the Pleasance Theatre, to Saturday.
Brave Macbeth
★★★★☆ Enjoyably educational:
Brave Macbeth, presented by Gilded Balloon in the Rose Theatre Basement, is a beautifully pitched children’s musical combining the Scottish Play with tunes, humour and shameless messing about.
Lyceum to touch void
Lyceum announces Bristol Old Vic co-pros for 2018:
A new David Greig adaptation of Touching the Void and the return of Wils Wilson at the helm for Twelfth Night will feature in the Lyceum’s 2018/19 season.
Richard III (A One-Woman Show)
★★★★☆ Innovative:
Shakespeare’s original script is pushed to the absolute limit, with a radical and intriguing overhaul of the renowned play Richard III.
Julius Caesar (with pirates!)
★★★☆☆ Unlucky:
Constantly battling against the elements, Julius Caesar (with pirates!) delivers no more or less than you can expect of an amateur free fringe show in the Black Market on Market Street.
The Shakespeares – Scenes From a Marriage
★★★☆☆ Yesteryear once more:
Storyboard Theatre’s The Shakespeares – Scenes from a Marriage goes over the well-trodden ground of the private life of that writer from Stratford. Even if nothing new surfaces, there is enough interesting acting to hold the attention.
Shakedown’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream
★★★★☆ Shaken & stirred
Shaking down Shakespeare is a well-worn pastime, but Pab Roberts has taken it to a new level with his Shakedown version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, staged at the King’s for two performances only.
