Radiating the sheer enjoyment of being back in a theatre, Edinburgh University Savoy Opera Group’s production of Legally Blonde-The Musical is huge in scale, excellently put together, and full of sugary goodness.

Edinburgh-based Showcase Productions, is to release a 30th anniversary album this week, in lieu of the annual concerts which were due to take place at the Church Hill Theatre.

The Scottish finals and the Eastern Division round of the SCDA One Act Festival have been cancelled as the Byre Theatre is cancelling all public events until Sunday May 31 2020.

★★★☆☆ Stately:
Huge care and attention has gone into the staging of Threepenny Theatricals’ version of Agatha Christie’s The Hollow. That care, however, does mean that there is a definite absence of energy in a production that never outstays its welcome but frequently threatens to.
Aladdin
★★★★☆ Magical:
Aladdin is Edinburgh People’s Theatre’s 67th consecutive pantomime but there is nothing tired about it. There may be baggy elements, but these are more than overcome by attention to comic detail, awareness of what really makes a panto and sheer good fun.
Hairspray
★★★★☆ Energetic:
The Balerno Theatre Company go back to Baltimore in the swinging 60s for their uplifting and energetic production of Hairspray at the Church Hill Theatre to Saturday.

Balerno Theatre Company is moving away from its traditional pantomime for this year’s seasonal offering at the Church Hill Theatre and returning to its roots to stage the Edinburgh amateur premiere of Hairspray, The Musical!.
