What’s on Edinburgh’s stages this week…
A bit of a hiatus week, this week. There are a few choice productions in smaller venues, but the big venues are getting ready for the big June openers, a couple of which are in preview this week.
The Aliens
★★★★☆ Wartime drama
Set in Leith during World War 2, The Aliens is a short slice of life, that zooms in on soldiers returning from Dunkirk at the time Mussolini announced Italy’s entry to the war in support of Germany.
Home Comfort with Citadel
New play based on memories of Leith gets online reading:
Home Comfort, a new play by Vincent Maguire based on living memories of Isa’s Chat ‘N’ Chew Cafe in Portland Place in Leith, has a new online rehearsed reading from Citadel Arts.
Bull
★★★★☆ Vicious:
Arbery Productions manage to find the dark heart of Mike Bartlett’s Bull at theSpace @ Niddry Street, in a production of skill and pace.
Recovering from abuse
Flickering Seasons for St Johns:

Cameron Forbes new play Something Resembling Love is to receive its premiere at Discover 21 on Friday night as Edinburgh’s smallest theatre continues its mission to promote new talent.

Off the buses
Pop-up theatre has been taken to new lengths this week by Asylon Theatre, who have been staging a series of solo performances on Stage Coach buses numbers 40 and 55 and are now taking them to Discover 21.
