Caitlin Skinner gets Stellar Quines’ AD & CEO role

She will take over from Jemima Levick who is moving on to Glasgow’s lunchtime theatre company A Play, a Pie and a Pint in April.

Stellar Quines was formed in 1993 and works to celebrate the value and diversity of women and girls by making brilliant theatre, provoking change, nurturing artists and empowering participation.

Skinner says: “It is my life’s mission to champion women and girls and so it is an absolute pleasure to be joining the incredible team at Stellar Quines.

“At this unprecedented time, there is lots of work required to challenge the inequalities the pandemic has exposed and exacerbated. I believe passionately in the positive role theatre has to play as we move forward together.”

She was a founding artistic director at the Village Pub Theatre and is one half of Jordan & Skinner with performer Melanie Jordan as well as director of new writing theatre company Pearlfisher. She will be stepping down from her role as Associate Director at Pitlochry Festival Theatre.

Skinner adds: “I am so inspired by the intersectional feminist movement in Scotland and by the diverse talent of women and non-binary artists making theatre here.

“I look forward to connecting with Stellar Quines’ existing network of artists, audiences and partners and reaching out to even more people across Scotland and beyond. It is such an exciting time for the company which has a tremendous legacy already and I can’t wait to get started.”

Her previous work with Stellar Quines includes directing the 2019 production of Hope and Joy by Ellie Stewart and the ‘Hack the Patriarchy’ project to promote gender equality in the theatre industry.

Sue Moody, Chair of Stellar Quines Board, welcomed Caitlin Skinner to the roles, describing her as a “rising star in Scottish theatre”.

She said: “Our team is looking forward to working with Caitlin to create more opportunities for women and girls to participate in and enjoy theatre-making through our performances and engagement programmes. We are grateful to Jemima Levick for her incredible work over the last five years and look forward to Caitlin leading us in the next stage of our journey.”
