Showcase is back
September song for Macmillan
Showcase is back where it belongs next week, up at the Church Hill Theatre, with its annual eclectic collection of tunes and dance numbers in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
This year’s production, Up Where We Belong (Tue 26 – Sat 30 Tickets), sees a company of forty-five singers and dancers working alongside a fifteen- piece live orchestra to bring you the very best of rock, pop and the musicals, all delivered in typical Showcase style.

As always, every penny raised from this production will go directly to Macmillan Cancer Support to help them continue their vital work, in and around Edinburgh, providing help and support to cancer patients, their families and communities when they most need it.
The company is committed to supporting Macmillan year round, according to Showcase director Andy Johnston, who says that alongside the fundraising summer and Christmas concerts, many of them even put their bodies on the line for the charity.
“This year we had a team representing Showcase in the Edinburgh Marathon,” he says. “And only two weeks ago cast member Keith Kilgore and his fiancé Claire-Louise Taylor, who plays in our orchestra, completed the 26-mile Rob Roy mighty hike, raising over £2000 for Macmillan.
“I’m immensely proud of the ongoing commitment Showcase members give to this great charity. However it is our September show at the Church Hill that is truly where the company is most at home.”

The variety of music on stage this year will range from Bruce Springsteen and Fleetwood Mac to Harry Styles and Lady Gaga. The shows featured go from Guys & Dolls and Ragtime to Six. There will be tributes to recent Eurovision winners and to New York City, alongside some unforgettable Cool Britannia 90s classics.
Composers represented include Stephen Sondheim, Kate Bush, Prince and Burt Bacharach. Showcase regulars will be unsurprised to learn that there may even be a Queen song included somewhere…
Johnston adds: “They have worked so hard over the summer and I really do think we have a classic Showcase this year. Since the company was founded, over £330,000 has been raised for Macmillan. Everyone who comes to see this show will make a real difference to someone else’s life and what could be more important than that?”
