Three evenings of theatre at St Serf’s
By Thom Dibdin
The Scottish Community Drama Associations one act competition kicks off tonight, Thursday 20 February, with heats taking place across the country.
In Edinburgh, three local amateur theatre companies will be performing at St Serf’s Hall with curtain up for the first show, Martha by Joe Corrie, at 7.30pm.
Further Edinburgh heats will take place tomorrow (Friday 21) and Saturday 21 February. A total of eight one act plays will be performed, representing productions by five different amateur groups.
All performances are open to the public, with tickets for each night’s shows costing £8, and a season ticket for all three nights £21. Those attending all three nights will be eligible to vote for the audience “best of the fest” award.
Adjudication of the competition will be by Alan Haslett from Ulster, who will be choosing the top three placed productions. They will go through to the Eastern Division Final at Dobbie Hall, Larbert, 20th to 22nd March.
An Emergency Panel of three adjudicators will judge the “best moment in theatre” prize. These are Liz Hare, artistic director of Citadel Arts; Stuart Mitchell of Edinburgh Theatre Arts and Thom Dibdin, founder and editor of All Edinburgh Theatre.com.
