Saughtonhall Panto auditions
Casting call for Puss in Boots
Saughtonhall Drama Society has put out a casting call for its 2016 pantomime Puss in Boots, which will run from Wednesday 23 to Saturday 26 November 2016.
The company has already cast some of roles but director Colin Mitchell told Æ that he is still looking for at least two principals and members of the chorus. He may also be needing to cast an Ogre, depending on other casting details.
The two principal roles are Harry, the third son of a miller who inherits nothing but his father’s cat, and Princess Lill, daughter of the hapless King Eric whose kingdom is besieged by a very greedy ogre.
Both performers will need to sing. The company is using the James Barry version, which is available to read on its publisher’s website at www.lazybeescripts.co.uk. Company rehearsals are on Monday and Friday nights, 7.30-10pm.
Auditions will be held at Saughtonhall Church on Friday 16 September and anyone wanting to throw their cap in the ring should contact Colin Mitchell by email or through the Saughtonhall website (details below).
Mitchell is a regular performer with the company and has been a regular director of their pantomimes since his first, Aladdin, in 2009.
He told Æ: “As with the majority of amateur groups, there is a severe lack of younger members to call upon and we know we need to expand our membership to be able to continue the high standard we have shown in the past.
“My first pantomime with Saughtonhall involved the discovery of one of Stanley Baxter’s old frocks and the Evening News came along to report on it. Widow Twankey never looked so resplendent!”
