Riverdance Returns
25th anniversary tour for 2020
Tickets go on sale today at 9am for Riverdance – The New 25th Anniversary Show which plays the Edinburgh Playhouse at the end of April 2020.
The 25 venue tour dates and ticketing links are listed below. Starting in Bournemouth on March 10 2020, the tour visits Newcastle (21-23 April), Edinburgh (24-26 April) and Glasgow (4-6 May) before finishing at London’s Hammersmith Apollo (4-6 June 2020).
Riverdance was first performed during the seven minutes interval of the 1994 Eurovision song contest. Featuring Irish dancing champions Jean Butler and Michael Flatley it lifted traditional Irish dance up several steps of exuberance.
For this anniversary tour, 25 years after opening in Dublin in February 1995, composer Bill Whelan has rerecorded the original soundtrack he created for that first production.
Producer Moya Doherty and director John McColgan have updated the show with new lighting, projection, stage and costume designs.
The producers promise it will be: “a powerful and stirring reinvention of this beloved family favourite, celebrated the world over for its Grammy Award-winning music and the thrilling energy and passion of its Irish and international dance.”
