Open casting call for Shoogly Peg intensive programme
Youth company Shoogly Peg Productions has announced an open casting call for its 2017 summer intensive programme, leading up to performances of American Idiot at the Edinburgh King’s.
The programme will run from Monday 3 to Thursday 13 July 2017, 9am to 4pm, with performances taking place in the King’s on Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13. There will be three weekend rehearsals in April, May and June.

American Idiot is a 2009 Broadway musical, based on the 2004 concept album of the same name by US pop-punk band Green Day. It tells the story of three young men whose dreams of leaving their small town home for the lights of New York turn sour in a variety of ways.
One turns to drugs, one joins the army and is wounded, and one never gets to New York, instead staying behind with his pregnant girlfriend.
Shoogly Peg previously produced the show in 2016 with performances at St Stephens in Stockbridge, reviewed here: ★★★☆☆ Energetic.
The auditions will take place on Sunday 26 March, 12 noon – 4pm, at the Hibernian Football Stadium and are open to everyone over 14, regardless of previous experience. Successful applicants will pay a fee of £200 for the full two weeks of rehearsals and shows.

Speaking of what makes the Shoogly Peg programme unique, director Derek Douglas told Æ: “We are offering a different experience and a more rounded view of the theatre.
“We will be bringing in industry experts and nutritionists as well as agents to look and discuss the industry properly – as well as an experience to learn and grow as performers and individuals by doing such an exciting and new show as American Idiot.”

Auditionees are asked to prepare a one-to-two minute section of a musical theatre song in a style similar to American Idiot (or indeed one from the show itself), as well as a monologue “in an American Dialect”, lasting no longer than two minutes.
They will need to supply their own backing track, which can be on CD, phone, ipad, ipod, tablet or laptop, as there will not be a pianist available at the audition. The audition process will be completed with a basic movement class.
Douglas added: “We are opening auditions to all skill sets and individuals, no matter what their experience so please come along and audition.”
