Auditions for major production of Wizard of Oz
Southern Light Opera are holding open auditions for their production of The Wizard of Oz which will be staged at the King’s in February.
The company are looking for performers aged over 16 to go with them down the Yellow Brick Road for their latest version of the musical based on the 1939 MGM motion picture.
SLO has already got its full compliment of Munchkins, after more than 337 youngsters auditioned for the 80 places in the production.
Now they are on the lookout for adult performers to join what will, no doubt, be one of the biggest musicals staged at the King’s next year.
Auditions will take place on October 7 at the Firhill Day Centre. Initially, these are just to join the company, with auditions for the principal roles and named characters to be carried out later in October once the company is compete.
Auditionees should prepare a song, not necessarily from the show, and contact the company secretary on slosecretary@btinternet.com to arrange a slot.
Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from mid October. There are a couple of Sundays closer to the show.
Founded in 1897, SLO is Edinburgh’s oldest theatre company and is respected as one of the leading amateur musical societies in the UK. The company last staged a production of The Wizard of Oz in 2007.
