Millie delays opening
Opening night put back for Playhouse
The opening night performance of Thoroughly Modern Millie at the Edinburgh Playhouse on Monday 30 January 2017 has been cancelled.
The show, staring Michelle Collins with Joanne Clifton in the title role, will now open Tuesday 31. All ticket holders for the original performance are being offered alternative dates on the week-long run or a full refund.
The Playhouse management said in a statement posted on the venue’s Facebook page on Friday afternoon that the cancellation is “due to technical reasons beyond the producers control” and apologised “for any inconvenience and disappointment caused by such a late cancellation”.
There are still seats available for the remaining dates of the run, Tuesday 31 Jan – Saturday 4 Feb and ticket holders for Monday night can exchange their tickets for available seats at those performances. Although the venue notes that it cannot guarantee the same seats but will endeavour to get seats in a similar area.
The production opened for a week of previews in the New Wimbledon Theatre in London (Jan 17 – 21), with its press night last Thursday 26 at the Milton Keynes Theatre.
Early reports question whether the “problematic” nature of the plot involving white slavery have been resolved and whether the tone of Michelle Collins’ character Mrs Meers is suitable for 2017.
