Tim Minchin confirms Autumn 2019 UK dates

Tim Minchin, the comedian, actor and composer, has announced he will return to the stage in 2019 with BACK, his first UK tour dates since 2011.

The 16-date tour will kick off in Ipswich on 15 October 2019, arriving in Edinburgh on Tuesday 19 November 2019 and also visiting the Glasgow Armadillo on Friday 22 November. Tickets for all dates go on general sale on Thursday 6 September 2018.

BACK, billed as “Old Songs, New Songs, F*** You Songs”, is Minchin’s first UK tour for eight years since his national arena tour of Tim Minchin and his Orchestra in 2010-2011. BACK will tour Australia in March-April 2019.

Tickets go on general sale on Thursday 6 September 2018, but priority access can be had through Ticketmaster Verified FanTM registration, of which Minchin says: “It sounds like a bit of a wank, but it’s a system to try to curtail scalpers. It’s a good thing, I think.”

Minchin is best known for writing the music and lyrics for Matilda the Musical, which has gone on to become one of the most acclaimed musicals of the last 20 years, winning a record seven Olivier Awards, 13 Helpmann Awards and five Tony Awards.

Matilda the Musical is also touring the UK, arriving at the Playhouse in April 2019.

Minchin wrote music and lyrics for the musical adaption of Groundhog Day, which after a limited run at The Old Vic in London in 2016, debuted on Broadway in April 2017 and won the Olivier Award for Best Musical in 2017.

Meanwhile, Minchin has ruffled feathers in Australia with his ARIA-nominated charity single, Come Home Cardinal Pel (2016) about the investigation into institutional sex abuse in Australia.
