Mack & Mabel tour arrives November 2015

Michael Ball is to star in the touring production of musical comedy Mack & Mabel which arrives at the Playhouse for a two-week stay in November 2015.

The new production premieres at the Chichester Festival Theatre. It will be directed by Jonathan Church and choreographed by Stephen Mear. Double Oliver award-winning Michael Ball will star as Mack Sennett, the great comedy director of the silent screen

Based on the true romance between Sennett and Hollywood legend Mabel Normand, the book is by Michael Stewart. Jerry Herman’s score includes such classics as I Won’t Send Roses and Time Heals Everything. The show received eight Tony Award nominations when it opened on Broadway in 1974.

It tells the story of a group of pioneering filmmakers who changed the world, surrounded by the great fun of the silent screen: heroes in capes, girls tied to the tracks, glamorous bathing beauties and the chaos of the Keystone Kops.

The show will open at the Chichester Festival theatre in July before embarking on tour from October 1 to December 6. It will visit Plymouth Theatre Royal, Manchester Opera House, Dublin’s BGE Theatre, Edinburgh Playhouse, Nottingham Theatre Royal and Cardiff Wales Millennium Centre.
