Lyceum Xmas Ticket Details
Seats available by table of 4 or 6
The Lyceum has released ticket details for the seven live performances of its Lyceum Christmas Tales this Christmas in its radically altered auditorium.
Live tickets are £25 per person. They are available for tables of four (£100) or six (£150) in the cabaret style seating area and singly in the circle. Tickets for the live online stream are £10 (one viewer) and £20 (several viewers).
The 90 minute production will run from Wednesday 16 to Sunday 20 December 2020, with shows at 7pm every evening and matinees at 2pm on Saturday and Sunday (Tickets and Details: Book here.)
As detailed in our news story announcing the shows (Lyceum’s Live Xmas), the show is part of the theatre’s December offering working with a dozen leading writers and will contain four stories. Further details of the stories and who will be writing for the Xmas shows are due soon.
Dust sheets
Artistic Director David Grieg said: “Covid 19 closed our doors to our audiences. In the summer it looked like The Lyceum would have to throw the dust sheets over the whole idea of making theatre.
“We had to cancel all our shows in production and perhaps the worst moment was realising that we couldn’t continue with our plans for The Snow Queen this year.
“But we always knew that The Lyceum could not cancel Christmas altogether –The Lyceum hasn’t missed a Christmas show in all its 137 years – so we started work with our Associates, Zinnie Harris and Wils Wilson, and Designer Tom Piper to make a creative response to keep the Christmas spirit alive in these strange times.
“We wanted the theatre building to be at the heart of it, as visiting our wonderful home has always been so much a part of the Christmas magic. Additional support from Creative Scotland allowed us to commission something new, and we wanted to give as many Scottish artists as possible the chance to take part.
safe and intimate
“We also knew it had to be safe and intimate, as any audiences would need to be small and safely spaced, and we needed to ensure it could also work as a digital stream.
“Finally, particularly after experiencing the huge generosity of our audiences, who have supported us with donations, stories, artworks and kind words throughout our hibernation, we also knew that our first act should be to give something back – that part of this should be a gift to the people of Edinburgh at Christmas.
“What we have come up with is Lyceum Christmas Tales, and we hope families will share them together during advent, much as they would an advent calendar.
“The final four stories will be brought to life on The Lyceum stage to a limited, socially distanced audience, marking the hopeful return of live theatre to The Lyceum.
“They will also be streamed live online to allow more people to watch with their families from home and giving the opportunity for an audience as large as ever to take part in our Christmas show, including a stream to our schools audiences.
“A Lyceum festive show is an Edinburgh tradition, and we wanted to make sure everyone could take part in it together, because that is what theatre is all about – especially at Christmas.”
