Kyiv opera at Playhouse
Ellen Kent’s operas feature Ukrainian National Municipal Opera Kyiv
The Edinburgh Playhouse is hosting the Ukrainian National Municipal Opera Kyiv this week, performing in Ellen Kent Productions’ trio of operas: Tosca, Carmen and Madama Butterfly.
The company is performing the Ukrainian national anthem at the end of each performance to honour their country and to “hold a moment of gratitude to the soldiers, defenders, volunteers and all who work to bring Ukrainian victory closer”.
Shortly after arriving to Scotland the company gathered for a photo in front of the venue before Thursday’s opening night of Puccini’s Tosca – instruments and Ukrainian flag in tow.
The residency will continue tonight, Friday 29 April, with Bizet’s Carmen, followed by Puccini’s Madama Butterfly on Saturday 30 April.
