Feast & Famine
Script-in-hand fundraiser
Edinburgh-based theatre company Urban Fox is holding Feast & Famine, a Christmas fundraiser of script-in-hand performances for local food banks.
The show will be held on two nights: Monday 12 December 2016 at St Augustines Edinburgh and again the following night in Glasgow at the Pearce Institute.
Eight playwrights are writing short plays for the event, including Ross Dunsmore, whose Milk was at the Traverse this fringe, as well as Lindsay Millar and Dave Fargnoli, who co-wrote Urban Fox’s hit Globophobia. The evenings will also include spoken word, music, raffles, mince pies and a warm drink. Tickets are £5 and all proceeds will go to local food banks through the Trussell Trust.
Amy Gilmartin, co-artistic director of Urban Fox, said: “We have challenged our writers to think about where we are now, coming to the end of a difficult year. Let’s look to our community and what we can do to support. Hunger is now a common reality for so many in our cities and we never know when we ourselves may need to ask for help. So, while we can, let’s help.”
fresh work
The number of script-in-hand performances of fresh work continues to rise, with other events coming up at the Traverse and Village Pub Theatre.
Amy Gilmartin will be one of two directors at the Traverse’s scratch platform for writers to test, experiment and discover: Words Words Words today, Friday 9 December 2016. Six of 68 submitted scripts will be produced, script in hand, with Gilmartin sharing directing duties with Zinnie Harris.
Ten days later on Monday 19 December, the Village Pub Theatre is putting on Stocking Fillers – an extra special event as it is fortified by members of DIVE. There will be short plays of a seasonal variety from seven writers, home baking, three King’s and a sprinkling of magical fairy dust by celestial host Fairy Godmother, Mistress Chipz.
