Atack takes Tiffany’s
Verity Rushworth withdraws as Holly Golightly
Verity Rushworth has had to withdraw from the role of Holly Golightly in the UK tour of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, as she is expecting her first baby.
Emily Atack makes her stage debut in the role when the production comes to the Edinburgh King’s from Monday 30 May to Saturday 4 June. Pixie Lott will continue to share the role as previously announced.
Newly announced to co-star in the show are Matt Barber (Downton Abbey’s Atticus Aldridge) as Fred, Victor McGuire (the sit-coms Trollied and Bread) as Joe Bell and Robert Calvert as Doc.
Naomi Cranston will play Mag, Charlie De Melo will be José, Tim Frances takes on Rusty Trawler and Editor at 21, Andrew Joshi is Yunioshi, Melanie La Barrie is Mme Spanella, and Sevan Stephan will be OJ Berman/Dr Goldman. Katy Allen and Andy Watkins complete the cast
Set in New York in 1943, Breakfast at Tiffany’s involves the story of charming, vivacious and utterly elusive good-time girl, Holly Golightly, as recalled by young writer Fred.
He is completely fascinated by this exquisite extrovert – who every woman wants to be, and every man wants to be with.
Everyone falls in love with Holly – including Fred. But Fred is poor, while Holly’s other suitors include a playboy millionaire and the future president of Brazil. As war rages on in Europe, Holly begins to fall in love with Fred – just as her past catches up with her.
flattered and honoured
Atack can currently be seen on the big screen in the remake of Dad’s Army, starring as Daphne. She is best known for her role as Charlotte Hinchcliffe in the award-winning E4 series The Inbetweeners. She recently shot Iron Sky 2 alongside comedian Tom Green, and Lies We Tell opposite Harvey Keitel, Gabriel Byrne and Gina McKee.
Atack commented that she is “flattered and honoured” to be playing Holly Golightly. She said: “to take such an iconic role as my stage debut is both incredibly exciting and challenging.
“I can’t wait to get started and plan to have as much fun with it as possible. I’m very much looking forward to getting in front of an audience and going on this journey with them every night.”
Breakfast at Tiffany’s director, Nikolai Foster, added that he is “delighted” at the news.
He said: “It’s a thrilling prospect for all of us to be working with actors who are perfectly suited to the role and will encourage a new generation of theatregoers to share Capote’s beautiful story. We cannot be sad to be losing Verity as it is for such a happy reason and we all wish her well with her pregnancy.”
