#EdFringe Casting Call
Theatre Alba seek cast for family season
Theatre Alba has put out an urgent casting call for its family season of shows at Duddingston Kirk during the 2017 Edinburgh fringe which will be staged on a profit-share basis.
The company has been at the fringe since 1981 and is this year presenting two shows, Cinders – The Folk Tale, written and directed by Clunie Mackenzie with music by Pete Bains and John Sampson, and Three Wee Kings: Grandad’s Cut by Paul Morris, adapted and directed by Charles Nowosielski.
Cinders is an outdoor, promenade play for children aged from four to ten, and their families. It is based on the many folk tales from around the world that became “Cinderella”. Performance dates are Tuesday 1 to Tuesday 15 August 2017 at 1pm daily. Rehearsals start July 17.
Three Wee Kings, a comedy drama for children age five upwards and their families, will be staged inside Duddingston Kirk. A “gloriously funny new angle on the Christmas story”, it features three old codgers are sheltering from the rain in a disused church who are joined by a pregnant young woman and her partner.
Performance dates are Wednesday 2 to Saturday 12 August at 3pm, the Tuesday 15 – Friday 18 August at 7pm.
Theatre Alba say that they did not receive any money from their funding application so these shows will be staged on a Profit Share basis.
Character Profiles
The company is looking to cast five roles in total, although there could be some doubling between the two productions.
Cinders – the Folk Tale
Cinders. A role for a young girl – singing would be an advantage.
Prince. A role for a young male (singing not necessary).
Godmother/Horrid sister. Age does not matter, but good singer needed.
Three Wee Kings: Grandad’s Cut
One male and one female to play the married couple (she is pregnant).
Casting will be in the week beginning June 26 2017, at a venue to be confirmed.
Anyone interesting in auditioning for the roles or for further information should contact Clunie Mackenzie on cluniemackenzie@gmail.com with photo and CV.
