Dame Judi Dench sets Edinburgh date
I Remember It Well
Dame Judi Dench is to make an appearance in Edinburgh this August, when she brings her hit West End reminiscence show, I Remember It Well, to the Edinburgh Playhouse.
Tickets go on sale from this Friday, 24 March, at 10am, for the show on Tuesday 18 August 2023, which will see Dame Judi chat with broadcaster Gyles Brandreth for a relaxed two hours of theatrical, TV and cinema-related reminiscences.

Dame Judi joins her friend Gyles on what is billed as a “roller-coaster trip down memory lane as together they explore the legendary actress’s extraordinary life”.
All will be covered, from her childhood in York in the 1930s and her debut as Ophelia at the Old Vic in 1957 to her continuing six decades of performing, during which she has played some of the most iconic roles in theatre, film and TV.
The show will have moments from Shakespeare and anecdotes galore – stories, sonnets and surprises – in what promises to be a “two-hour party of lifetime”.
When asked about the name of the show, Dame Judi said that it is: “Because sometimes I don’t remember it well – and then Gyles has to remind me!”

Reviews from the previous outing of the show, last summer in the Gielgud Theatre in London, talk of a gentle two hours in which “Years and names fly by at breathless speed. Long-forgotten productions surface vividly enough that we believe we were there, even if they took place before we were even born.”
Of that outing, London theatre blogger Theatre Monkey added: “The show is seemingly almost unscripted.
“Organised into a first half opening with a little autobiography before moving on to the phenomenal stage career, and a second more about films and television, a few set pieces and favourite tales pass from one show date to the next. The rest seems free-wheeling, conversation going where memory allows so that laughter can follow.”
