Benefit tribute for Brain Tumour Research

Edinburgh’s amateur musical companies are coming together this week to celebrate the life of backstage star Jenny Hogg, who died of a brain tumour in March this year, aged just 33.

Waiting in the Wings, which plays at the Church Hill Theatre on Friday and Saturday this week (October 17 and 18, 2014), will feature a carefully curated selection of Jenny’s favourite musical numbers from her years spent in the wings as a stage crew guru.

One of Jenny’s biggest passions was musical theatre. She studied Stage Management at Queen Margaret University and spent years in the stage crew for numerous Edinburgh amateur theatre companies. The production will feature some of the friends she made through her years stage-crewing for companies such as Forth Children’s Theatre and Tempo.

Allegro is supplying all the technical equipment for the show as it will be staging a production of Our House in the Church Hill Theatre the following week.

Jenny’s parents, Irene and Alan Hogg, were inspired to set up the benefit after attending a charity concert in aid of Leukaemia following the death of one of their friend’s mother.

Alan Hogg said: “Afterwards we were chatting having thoroughly enjoyed the evening, and suddenly thought, we know loads of on-stage and backstage people – we could do this for Jenny.

“We are now aware of many instances where Jenny assisted people – not known to us – where she gave money, showed them an avenue to go down, pushed them in a certain way or just listened to them, we would like to by using Facebook, or any other social media get them to help in whatever way they can, whether coming to the show or donating as much or little as the can.”

Excerpts from shows will include Bugsy Malone, Nunsense, Guys and Dolls, Jekyll & Hyde and Macpherson’s Rant amongst many others.

Tickets for the show are priced £15, with all proceeds going to Brain Tumour Research.

There will also be a raffle on the night  – details of the raffle prizes are on the event’s facebook page: www.facebook.com
