Cat-like try-out
Come-and-try G&S event
Edinburgh-based amateur musicals company, Cat-Like Tread, is holding an open come-and-try event at Edinburgh Academy this weekend, Saturday 19 November 2016.
The company was set up in 2013 to stage productions of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas during the Edinburgh fringe. Productions tend to focus on great singing and performances over elaborate sets and large orchestras.
The event on Saturday stars off at 6.30pm and is open to everyone who would like to have a go, young and old – although the company is limited to over-18s for its performances for insurance reasons.
Cat-like tread member Vinca Russell told Æ: “We just want to give people a relaxed way to see if it’s something they might like to be involved in.
“Amateur theatre in Edinburgh is brilliant, but there still aren’t many ‘no strings attached’ ways to give it a go. We thought we’d run this event to see if we can encourage a few more people to join in, maybe even convincing them that G&S isn’t something that’s only enjoyable to those of a certain age!”
The event will include a bit about the company and its background and they will introduce and talk about their venture for next August’s fringe – The Sorcerer. There will also be some singing and a little bit of blocking, to give participants a taste of what the company do in rehearsals.
