Good to see a really decent fist of involved drama from Edinburgh’s amateur companies on the stages this week, where they have no less than three plays and a musical on offer.

Flying onto the Playhouse stage on the magic carpet of Disney, the big touring production of Aladdin which sets off on a 15 month UK tour is a big, sparkling concoction of fun.

EGTG revive Walt McGough’s Chalk
Edinburgh Graduate Theatre Group return this coming week with a revival of American playwright Walt McGough’s intense, 2015 sci-fi fable, Chalk, upstairs at the Assembly Roxy from Wed 8 to Sat 11 November 2023.
Grease

Smart, precise and packing more energy than the Duracell Bunny on pep pills, Allegro’s production of Grease the Musical electrifies the Church Hill Theatre where it is playing all week.

It’s another week of plenty on the theatre front in Edinburgh this week, after a strong start from the Horror Festival at the Banshee Labyrinth – on Hallowe’en night, of course.

A second night at the Edinburgh Horror Festival reveals more supernatural goings on, this time in the Cinema Room with the new Tarmac Lullaby from Crested Fools and a returning piece The Devil in the Belfry from Brassica Theatre.

Five-strong theatre slate for this year’s oogly fest
Little known stories from children’s author E Nesbit headline the Edinburgh Horror Festival which returns today, with a slate of five fringe-length theatre offerings, each playing over four nights at the Banshee Labyrinth to Sunday 29 October 2023.
