E.A.S. abandons plans for al fresco Macbeth

Edinburgh Acting School’s planned outdoor production of Shakespeare’s Macbeth on Halloween weekend has been forced to move online, as current Covid-19 restrictions were extended this week.

The production will now have two live-streamed performances from the original venue, one on Friday 30 October at 9pm and a second on Saturday 31 October at 7pm. Tickets cost £5 and are available now.

Announcing the change, E.A.S. said: “We are gutted to not get to perform our ‘Outdoor Intimate Production’ to the sold out audience – however we are excited to now be live streaming to a bigger audience.

“This was a big blow to us as we have worked tirelessly to work within restrictions and try to make our production happen. As a company we needed to re-group, re-assess and re-adjust.”

Having gone back to the drawing board, the company has decided that it will still perform in the original venue – against the backdrop of Marchmont St Giles Church – and live-stream the result.

They continue: “We have worked hard to overcome the challenges that have been thrown at us all over the last few months and will overcome this new challenge. It just means our audience can view it from the comfort of their own homes and not have to brace the Scottish weather.

“Our industry is suffering right now, and we just hope that next weekend we can provide some solace for everyone that watches.”
