Iolanthe
★★★☆☆ Concise:
There is a pleasing and playful lightness of tone to the Edinburgh University Savoy Opera Group’s production of Iolanthe, which is at the Teviot Debating Hall until Saturday.
The Girl on the Train
★★★☆☆ Thrilling:
Whether you know the story or not, The Girl on the Train – at the Kings Theatre until Saturday – will keep you on the edge of your seat right up until the end.
White
★★★★☆ Layered:
Comic, brutal and certainly confrontational, the UK premiere of James Ijames’ White at St Cecelia’s Hall delivers a well-judged prod at the often unguarded underbelly of white liberal self-satisfaction.
Local Hero
★★★☆☆ Charming:

Disruptive elements

This weekend the EUTC is leaving its Bedlam home for a short break at St Cecelia’s Hall where it is presenting the UK premiere of James IJames’ “truly disruptive” play, White.
David Blaine for Playhouse
First UK tour opens in Edinburgh:
David Blaine, magician, illusionist and stunt artist, is to open his first-ever U.K. and Ireland tour with two nights at the Edinburgh Playhouse in June 2019.
The Wedding Singer
★★★★☆ Hilariously entertaining:
It’s all big hair and eighties music as The Bohemians take us back to 1985 in their annual trip to the King’s with The Wedding Singer, playing until Saturday.
The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-In-The-Moon Marigolds
★★★☆☆ Inexact science:
Arkle’s production of Paul Zindel’s The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-In-The-Moon Marigolds at the Hill Street Theatre is an uneven but ultimately fulfilling exploration of angry insecurities and brittle dreams.
