Fantastic Mr Fox
★★★☆☆ Entertaining:
Fantastic Mr Fox is a musical for children based on the classic book by Roald Dahl. It is the same basic story as the book, but lots of things that Mr Fox does are not the same.
Jane Eyre
★★★★☆ Pure theatre:
Resolutely theatrical and visually arresting, the version of Jane Eyre at the Festival Theatre retains the flavour of that well-loved book while succeeding admirably on its own terms.
Scorch
★★★★☆ Relevant:
Choose a front row seat for maximum effect in Scorch, Stacey Gregg’s cleverly immersive one person show from Prime Cut Productions, at the Traverse until Saturday and on tour.
Don Giovanni
★★★☆☆ Well-performed but jumbled:
VoiceArc’s sci-fi reworking of Don Giovanni, at Broughton St Mary’s Church to Sunday, lifts itself on the voices of its talented performers despite some questionable set design.
Shoogly adults callout
Adult roles in Spring Awakening up for grabs:
Local youth company Shoogly Peg Productions is staging the musical version of Spring Awakening in June and is looking for two adults to perform in the show.
My Country – A Work in Progress
★☆☆☆☆ Limp:
My Country – A Work In Progress, the National Theatre of Great Britain’s touring response to the Brexit vote, may very well have its heart in the right place.
EIF seek Shadow Director
Major mentoring opportunity with EIF:
The Edinburgh International Festival has launched a new mentoring programme for people who are looking to develop their careers as programmers, producers or cultural managers.
The Ladykillers
★★★★☆ Dead funny:
Assured comedy performances and ambitious staging combine to make a success of The Ladykillers for the Grads, at the Assembly Roxy to Saturday.
Matthew Bourne’s The Red Shoes
★★★★☆ Modern elegance:
Matthew Bourne’s The Red Shoes, on national tour and at the Festival Theatre all week, is an exquisite celebration of classical ballet with Bourne’s typical modern twist.
