Five world premiere’s from youth theatre

The Strange Town Youth Theatre is staging five world premieres of short plays by young and emerging playwrights at the Scottish Storytelling Centre this week.

From a re-imagining of Cinderella set in a Poundland in Fife to a murder in Santa’s Grotto, via elf and security from a hard-boiled elf cop and a somewhat macabre Yuletide request, the members of Strange Town’s young companies are asked to stretch their imaginations.

Crop-JinglebellThe season sees the return of Strange Town favourites Sam Siggs, who is currently being mentored by Playwright’s Studio Scotland, and Tim Primrose who was part of the Strange Town set-up from the word go, and whose first full length script, this here now, premiered on the Lyceum stage when he was 18.

Opening on Thursday with Charlotte Hathaway’s Present Perfect and Siggs’ All I Want for Christmas is the Head of Johnny Murdock, the season continues on Friday with Cindy by Amy Drummond and The Promise by Natalie Mackinnon.

These four plays are repeated over the weekend when Tim Primrose’s Jinglebell Jones: Elf Squad will play a matinee on both Saturday and Sunday. All plays last an hour.
