New Celtic musical seeks singers

A new Celtic musical, Goldrush!, is set to premiere at St Bride’s in June and is looking to audition for chorus and lead roles this Sunday 24 January 2016.

With libretto by Anne-Marie Fraser, music from Fraser and Andrew Carvel and arrangements from MD Jerry Gregson, the production will be directed by Alan Borthwick.

Goldrush TitleThe show boasts 13 named roles (seven male, six female) and the production team point out that it is an opportunity for a wide range of ages. They add that voice skills are more important than dance technique.

Goldrush! is set in an idyllic Highland village, where Pete is looking to outrun his dark past. He thinks he has found the perfect hideaway with friendly locals and plenty of rocks and trees for his young daughter to climb.

Pete’s partner Bonnie seems happy running her new bistro – and the Glenairty Burn is a real gold-panner’s dream, where a man could while away his entire day.

But there’s no time to relax. Pete’s simple idea to help the village generate more cash – by spreading rumours of a gold-strike in the Glenairty Burn – becomes complicated when a cruise ship docks for repairs just up the coast and a handful of bored visitors come exploring.

Auditions

Auditions will be held in Edinburgh on the afternoon of Sunday 24 January 2016. Rehearsals will start from March 24, running on Thursdays and moving to Sunday afternoons nearer show week. For full details email the company at amf@lifeswish.com.

Anne-Marie Fraser says: “It’s a straightforward, feel-good musical without any political message whatsoever. Anyone who likes their concoctions straight up with a twist will probably enjoy it! If you like toe-tapping music, snappy lyrics, great harmonies – and a completely original storyline, then Goldrush! probably has something for you.”
