Kieth Jack to perform “Up Close and Personal” at Brunton theatre

Keith Jack is to appear in a solo show at the Brunton

By Thom Dibdin

Keith Jack is to appear in an “up close and personal”, one-off concert at the Brunton Theatre on Thursday 23 February.

The Edinburgh-born singer went to school in Dalkeith before going on to study musical theatre at Telford College. He will be “performing a selection of his favourite songs as well as some new ones” at the concert. He will have just a pianist for accompaniment and will invite questions from the audience.

Jack rose to fame in the BBC’s Any Dream Will Do search for a Joseph and is currently wearing the Coat of Many Colours in the Bill Kenwright touring production of the musical – there is a review and interview with him in the annals here. He will be taking the opportunity of a short break from Joseph to return home, before hitting the road in a tour that is booked up until May.

Jack is fresh from appearing as Sleeping Beauty’s Prince Charming in his second appearance in the Glasgow King’s pantomime. In a Brunton connection for that show, Jimmy Jingles was played by Aaron Usher who made a name for his Silly Billy character at the Brunton Pantomime.

Since narrowly missing out to winner Lee Mead on Any Dream Will Do, Jack has toured in the Bill Kenwright production of Joseph. He initially appeared in the role of the Narrator, before finally getting to play Joseph in July 2010. Besides the King’s panto, he has appeared in panto at His Majesty’s Theatre, Aberdeen. He sang “Uptown Girl” with Daniel Boys and Ben James-Ellis on John Barrowman’s album “Music Music Music”  and at Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Birthday concert as part of Proms in the Park. He has released two solo albums, This Time, and A Night at the Musicals.

Keith Jack will be at Brunton Theatre on Thursday 23 February, 7.30pm. Tickets are £15.25 (£13.25) and are available now from Brunton Theatre Box Office on 0131 665 2240 or online at www.bruntontheatre.co.uk.
